Review on πŸ”§ Nite Ize FAMT-03-01 Tool Holster: Stretchable & Black - A Product Review by David Hashman

Great sheath but they could improve the belt clip, IMO

Like: Fits different sized multi tools and keeps them secure. Elastic material holds it in place. It seems well made and durable, the elastic band is very well protected by the strong fabric. The loop/belt clip on Nite Ize products tends to be much more durable than the fabric loop, it is not. Exception. It closes with a latch and opens with a click instead of the snapping sound of the Velcro. The clip allows you to attach small items (pen, AAA flashlight) to the elastic loops on the side without interfering with the main compartment. The belt clip opens at the bottom so you can attach it to your belt without unbuckling it, but it stays secure and won't come loose with normal use. At the back of the main compartment is a thin/narrow secondary compartment, ideal for storing thin Leatherman bits or extra saw/file blades if your tool comes with interchangeable ones (like my Surge or some Gerber models). volume and allows the scabbard to protrude slightly from my belt instead of staying snug on it. Like or dislike, but perhaps notable for some, the elastic strap allows for a snug fit on everything from the standard Leatherman PST tool to my slightly larger Leatherman Surge. On the one hand I like its versatility and that it doesn't rattle in the sheath, but with larger multi-tools like my Surge or the Super Tool 300 it takes some effort to hide it, especially before it breaks. It's easy enough to remove any size tool with one hand. The belt clip is made of plastic rather than fabric, making it more durable and wear-resistant over time. Nite Ize is one of the few companies that can make strong, durable clips that won't dig into my side. However, these sheaths have a swivel feature that "snaps" into different positions, allowing the tool to be carried both vertically and horizontally. The swivel adds bulk and allows the sheath to protrude slightly from my belt rather than being snug on it. It's not enough to be problematic, but it's still not my first preference. If I were the supreme ruler of the world, I would order Nite Ize to make two versions, one vertical, one horizontal, and get rid of the swivel so it would fit tighter on the belt. It automatically adjusts to size with an elastic sleeve around the sides of the sheath to "squeeze" the tool while keeping it taut. Makes your tool secure but requires a bit more effort to install/uninstall. However, this elastic allows you to attach a pen or small flashlight without reaching into the main compartment. It closes with a snap rather than Velcro, there's no tearing sound when you open it, and you don't have to remove the lint on the "hook" side for it to work. However, this limits the size of a suitable tool, which is at least partially offset by how the rubber band holds it. It holds a tool the size of the original PST securely enough and expands to fit a Surge or Super Tool 300, but those are roughly the practical upper and lower size limits. There is a small hole at the bottom of the main compartment. I assume this is for letting dirt/debris through. Your tool won't fall through, but I don't want to carry something very thin or small in diameter in my pocket because it could fall through.
