Review on πŸ”§ WEIJIANG Flexible Assembly Modeling: Top Soldering Solution for Precision Crafts by Ian Bates

Well made, strong magnets

I didn't expect it to be so well made. The bottom plate is heavy; It's a solid piece of steel, 4.2mm, 1237g (over 2 pounds). This makes the platform very stable. It's a thick (powder?) color that should stand up to rough handling. The kit includes thick rubber feet - they are self-adhesive so this is optional. The flexible arms are stiff enough to stay in place, but move easily with no bounce. The magnets on each hand are very strong. For example, I can use 2 hands to lift a 1237g (>2lb) baseplate (see image). In addition, all magnetic feet are provided with a rubber film to prevent scratches. There is a thumbscrew at the end of each arm to change the angle of the alligator clips without having to rotate the base. The soldering iron holder is just as strong and the magnet on it can lift almost the entire board on its own. Small board retaining posts can either sit over the pegs (to make flipping easier) or clamped between rubber posts (to provide stability and isolation). I shopped a lot (perhaps excessively) when looking for helping hands, and given the price, I was expecting the typical low-end consumer goods we often see from overseas. It was a pleasant surprise to receive something well made from a seller who really stands behind their products.
