Best option when first transitioning from something like 18-200 3.5-5.6 or similar as a FR part 2 item. 2.8 is lighter and a stub is needed, but this is _completely_ different money. Got pros: Sharp, contrasty, fast focus. Hood and case included. No vignetting. Excellent picture throughout. Light weight, compact. Cons: There is no stub - for very distant objects, a tripod is mandatory, in my opinion. 4L - a bit dark for shooting in cloudy weather, or raise the ISO.
