I bought this because this year we wanted to up our outdoor decor a notch or two to bring a little more joy to the world or at least our little one.corner. The fact that it runs on batteries is very appealing as I didn't like running an extension cord all the way to a mailbox and I wanted something that glowed. What's really cool is that the light has a timer that will leave the light on for six hours and then automatically turn it off for 18 hours. This saves batteries and also tries to remember to go outside and turn them on and off. The first night we used it, we manually turned it on at 5pm and off at 11am (I was awake to make sure). Since then, it turns on automatically at 5:00 a.m. and turns off at 11:00 a.m. every night. A set of batteries lasted a couple of weeks while it worked for us. I was able to tie it to our mailbox with garlands which are supplied well enough that it doesn't budge in winds in excess of 30mph.
