I have already ordered this playpen as an outdoor playpen for my new rescue cat but now I use it for the cage as she loves to urinate on the bed. Ever since she's been in and out of the shelters, she's used to being locked in a box and doesn't try to escape. However, a kitten or cat (or puppy) unaccustomed to being in an enclosed space may attempt to climb out and collapse the playpen on them. As you can see from the photos it has enough space for a small tray, food, water and her scratchy toys. I can't put a towel in it because she gets wet but she loves lying on a piece of cardboard. I love how the zipper unzips so I can easily clean it and the tray. The flaps on both sides are also unbuttoned.
