I air dry my center back fine highlights in 2 sets and they are straight, smooth and bouncy at the ends as if I would blow dry or walk to the salon! Lasts until the next shampoo. My hair is straight at the roots and after puberty it has various waves in the middle length which I don't like. I also ordered metal clips to hold the curlers in place (either common sense or cynicism told me they wouldn't magically stay on their own). On the rare occasions that I use a hair dryer, I alternate warm and cold air (never hot), hold the hair dryer no closer than 6 inches from the hair, and then mainly wind the curlers from the middle of the shaft to the ends during the rest dries. It also works if the curlers are placed first and then dried warm/cold, although I prefer the first two methods because I can multitask while they dry instead of blow-drying them all the time. I either use a leave-in conditioner (Redken Anti-Snap or Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair) or no product at all. My very dry hair usually takes a long time to dry, but it goes relatively quickly with them. I only wash 1-2 times a week, so mostly early morning on a weekday or at the end of the week when I'm not in a hurry to go outside. When I have a busy schedule, I add the safer blow drying technique. These big curlers are great when you don't want any curling effect other than a curl at the ends, restoring your hair's health by avoiding/minimizing hot tools, and saving money by not going to a salon to get the same effect achieve.
