I started riding again after 35 at the age of 55. I bought a new saddle and standard stirrups that I used when I was young. However, I found that my ankles and knees felt tight and sore after a class or straight after dressage practice. My trainer recommended I try these stirrups and the difference is amazing. These composite stirrups are very strong, but they absorb shock in a way that filler stirrups cannot. I feel much more confident in the saddle and they allow my legs to be in a more natural position when riding. I can't explain the physics, but I can say that these stirrups really take the pressure off my joints, especially my ankles. I had a bad ankle fracture due to braces and since switching to these stirrups my sore ankle feels great even after an intense workout. I like that they come in different colors. I originally bought them in gray to mimic metal but I've since bought them in purple to match my pad and I really like the light color. I will never go back to Fillis stirrups.
