Before making these bags, I simply wrapped our homemade loaves in flour handkerchiefs. I think they held moisture better just because they were so tightly woven and how close they fit to the loaf. But it is much more convenient to use. Instead of carefully wrapping the bread every time we cut off a few pieces, we can just put it back in, seal it, and place it cut side down. Much quicker than flipping a loaf of bread. If I have to stretch the bread, I'll probably still wrap it in the towel from the flour bag (then put it in that bag for fidelity). But I only use them for most of our baked goods.
