We have a tray in the closet (don't judge strictly, our apartment is small). It is very important to me that the smell stays in the box and not on our clothes, so we have a box with a lid on top and a door over the entrance. But every time my cats leave the house, they stray for miles. I think they do it on purpose! Anyway, I put it in front and it really is a trap for all the junk. I shook it out yesterday and couldn't believe how much dirt was in the fibers. This is a good size so it may not fit if you have a very small space. It also has a bit of a dirty texture, so better stay away if your tray is somewhere you can step on it with bare feet (I know a lot of people keep the tray in the bathroom). am very happy with it.
