Maybe good for a dog but NOT for a cat. In order to close tightly and protect against the elements, the flap moves with the frame part, and it becomes very heavy for a small animal when it scratches the animal's back. It's difficult enough to get a cat to accept a firm but light smack running down their back as it passes, but it's so hard that very few cats would accept it. Also, it takes quite a bit of pressure to move the shock, which is another disadvantage. So I would say it's very poorly designed for cats. This can be good for small dogs as long as they are not sensitive or nervous. So now I'm looking for a cat flap with a magnetic stripe flex flap so that it closes tightly. Because this two-piece sash weighs 2-3 times more than most other sashes, I find this pet door a waste of money.
