I have yet to move with the times and replace the old cassette deck in my car. I also have an old record/cassette/CD combo box at my house that doesn't have any kind of AUX input, so I was dependent on an audio adapter to get the job done. I used to have a Phillips adapter that worked great. The sound was good enough and it served its purpose. This one broke recently (the wires got a bit finicky and required constant pressure to play both channels). Then I used my spare adapter from RCA. It only played one channel and the sound quality sounded like it was going through a filter. The bass wasn't quite round and the high frequencies sounded like they were being played at a lower bit rate. I decided to look for a replacement but many stores seem to have gotten rid of these little adapters. I believe that supporting a dying technology is not that profitable and the adapter just takes up valuable shelf space. Radio Shack was the only place I found it, but they sold it for $20 and I couldn't get any guarantees that it would work with the iPod or even provide the high quality sound I wanted, though I of course knew it wasn't going to be HD quality because I was playing it through an adapter through a 15 year old cassette deck. Well after searching Revain (as well as other sites), I thought it was a great choice. I would definitely avoid brands that I had experience with, which gave me an inferior experience. I was also wary of unnamed Chinese imports that seemed too good to be true. I've seen Maxell - a fairly reliable brand when it comes to cartridge technology - and I've seen that the price is right. I decided to add it to my cart and give it a try. The product arrived quite quickly. It didn't look like the picture - all white and in a slightly different packaging - but it had an additional feature - a bass booster. Good. It was neat. After taking it out of the box, I grabbed the adapter. It was really cheap. My old ones seemed twice as heavy and better built, but I guessed they were about 20 years old, so the market for CD cassette adapters has probably changed a lot. Anyway, I picked a song on my iPod that I knew sounded good on a Phillips adapter and completely broke on the RCA and no-name adapters I had. I played " It didn't sound terrible once, it was just that the music wasn't balanced and the bass was enough without boost. I would definitely recommend this adapter to anyone. Although the sound produced by this adapter sounded great initially not sure if it will deteriorate over time but would buy another if this one doesn't suit me. so the market for CD cassette adapters has probably changed a lot.
