Works fine but too hot for roots

Wanted to try straightening my 4c curly/curly hair. I was a little skeptical at first, but tried it anyway. The results were pretty decent. I finally saw how long my hair had grown and it didn't take long to straighten it. The instructions say to set the straightener on H for thick curly hair. yes don't do it My hair was too hot so I switch it to M, still too much heat. L was the most decent option, and while it meant going through my hair 3 or 4 times, I'd rather do that than burn my hair. My only frustration is that because it gets very hot I can't get my roots the way I want for fear of burning my scalp and hair. Definitely won't try it, but for first time use it's worth a try. I can spend the weekend using it on all my hair instead of a few parts. I love that the hair is straightened in the middle with a straightener, but for thick curly hair you can straighten the ends of the hair and lift it up a bit, then return to the ends. I did it this way, working backwards, because I got tangled and pulled too hard, which is stressing the hair and causing breakage. Even when untangling I ran into this problem because the instructions say it works from scratch, but it didn't work for me. But then again, no two hair types are the same, even if they are 4c. I also used heat protectant oil while straightening the 2 sections I was experimenting with which helped a lot.
