The ladder is very strong. The age range of 18 months to 3 years is pretty accurate. My almost 2 year old is the same size as a 3 year old and has trouble getting in and out on his own. We use almost every day. This is the height of the counter, so it can easily "help" me. I gave 3 stars for the following reasons: First, the corner of the box was badly torn. There were other scratches on the packaging. The ladder itself was fine. There was one area that looked like the paint had been scratched, but since it was in a spot that could be screwed in, I wasn't concerned about that. The instructions are for those who are more mechanical than me. Now that I know how to assemble it, I might buy another one.
