Review on πŸ”Œ StarTech.com Black DVI-D to VGA Active Adapter Converter Cable - Upgrade to 1080p, DVI to VGA Converter Box (DVI2VGAE) by Dan Chunn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

1st time DOA, 2nd time works!

Bought to convert DVI-D to VGA on my computer so I can use two monitors. Although my computer sees and reads the new monitor as present, there is no signal on the monitor. I have tested the monitor and VGA cable and they work 100% with my DVI-I adapter. This device is losing signal. My computer is outputting something, but my monitor is not receiving anything. StarTech also promises a 24-hour response time for technical support. They could not answer my problem within such a time. 0/10 will not buy again. Will return to Revain to order another converter or return the monitor for a DVI compatible monitor. ------- Editing the previous rating! Contacted Startech support via chat (contact on the box was slow, and after 24 hours promise) Confirmed by customer service. I had the DOA part (another reviewer had the same issue). Got a replacement from Amazon. Now VGA monitor works from my DVI-D port through this device! Much luck. There's a slight color issue, but it's fine for use as an additional monitor. The adapter worked 100% when plugged in. Didn't need a USB power amplifier, which was plugged in anyway if needed in the future. I haven't plugged it in for a very long time, so haven't encountered any issues on startup (I'll keep an eye on it). I have no plans to buy VGA monitors in the future, this problem with the DVI connector was so annoying. I suggest switching to DVI/HDMI for starters and skip the whole thing! DVI monitors are slashed in price to compete with VGA, so go that route if at all possible. Otherwise it looks like a normal solution for a dual monitor setup.
