Review on Netac 500GB Portable SSD with Type C: High-Speed NVME SSD PCIE, USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps External Solid State Drive by Mike Hamelin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tested on USB-C 3.1 port, max 777MB/s write and 837MB/s read

Summary: The max speed I tested before is about 540MB/s read, this speed reached 837MB/s . My computer is a few years old, so only 3.1, so the 980MB/s read speed claim seems plausible, but I haven't been able to verify it. Details: Primary desktop computer - Dell XPS 8920. System drive - 250 GB. SSD. Two more hard drives for data, 1.0 TB and 6.0 TB. External USB ports: USB-C 3.1 (rear), USB-A 3.1 (rear), USB-A 3.0 (front). Test method: I use the test program ATTO Disk Benchmark (free). I tried several different ones and settled on this one because the resulting image was relatively easy to compare to other results. When evaluating the results, I mainly paid attention to the transfer rate of files from 1 MB. Test Results: Between the front (3.0) and rear (3.1) ports, I saw much better write speeds (777 vs. 431 MB/s). on the rear port (expected). Reading from the back was also much better (837 vs. 434 MB/s). Observations: The constant temperature after three runs of the hard drive speed test was 42 °C (108 °F). The ambient/starting temperature was 87F (31C). Recommendations. Unplug and unplug the drive from your computer when data is not being transferred, maximizing the life of the drive as heat is the number one factor affecting electronics longevity. Pros: includes two cables (3.0 and 3.1); Drive activity indicator (next to the USB-C port). Disadvantages: none. Verdict: $90 for a 500GB drive. I rate this disc 5 stars. So with so many offers, do your research carefully; For example, the NETAC drive below is almost identical, it's $65 vs $90 but only transfers at 500MB/s vs 980MB/s, but if your computer ports aren't working as fast you can save some money and still have the have the performance you need.
