What's good: I was looking for something compact and sturdy to support my Sony A7rIII and other cameras. That's almost all. It folds compact enough (especially if you remove the column and ball head and turn it upside down) to fit in most lens-sized pockets in your camera bag, is solidly built, large enough to be used in almost any shooting scenario, stable. . This is a good set and fits in my travel bag. Not everything is so perfect: Firstly, the central column lock. It takes a bit of work to mount a camera of any significant weight. The clamping force is insufficient to prevent radial movement on the A7RIII with and without the grip, as well as any mid-range lens. It's easy to knock it off axis by simply adjusting the camera settings, or if the tripod is at any tilt and the column isn't vertical, the column will rotate quite slightly. It really needs to be rethought to provide more clamping force. In fact, it would be fine if I eliminated the column entirely as it doesn't add any noticeable height, and mounting the ball head directly on the center fork would solve the problem, simplify the entire tripod and make it even more compact. something personal. I use the Black Rapid strap when traveling and need a tripod thread mount to attach the strap. I usually use Manfrotto RC2 quick release plates. They are ideal for a quick and smooth transition from strap to tripod. BR even makes a replacement bracket (FR-T1) compatible with RC2 inserts. The included ball head works reasonably well and the quick release mechanism is fine. But the plate isn't deep enough to accommodate a loop attachment screw like the FR-T1, which attaches to the clasp on the strap. Removing the plate and replacing it with a BR screw for each transition didn't work for me. To make matters worse, the top of the ball head interacts with the QR plate, which has a key function. Not a bad idea, but it eliminates the possibility of just replacing the QR assembly with RC2. This meant I had to replace the entire ball head. A $40 tripod turned into a $100 solution. However, this is not a deal breaker. If they fixed the down force of the column and made the top of the ball head shaft universal that would be a 5 star rating. If you're using a smaller, lighter camera than the A7rIII and don't mind the proprietary plate system, this is the ideal and reliable travel solution.
