I use the Black Rapid strap when traveling and need a tripod thread mount to attach the strap. I usually use Manfrotto RC2 quick release plates. They are ideal for a quick and smooth transition from strap to tripod. BR even makes a replacement bracket (FR-T1) compatible with RC2 inserts. The included ball head works reasonably well and the quick release mechanism is fine. But the plate isn't deep enough to accommodate a loop attachment screw like the FR-T1, which attaches to the clasp on the strap. Removing the plate and replacing it with a BR screw for each transition didn't work for me. To make matters worse, the top of the ball head interacts with the QR plate, which has a key function. Not a bad idea, but it eliminates the possibility of just replacing the QR assembly with RC2. This meant I had to replace the entire ball head. A $40 tripod turned into a $100 solution. However, this is not a deal breaker. If they fixed the down force of the column and made the top of the ball head shaft universal that would be a 5 star rating. If you're using a smaller, lighter camera than the A7rIII and don't mind the proprietary plate system, this is the ideal and reliable travel solution.
