Great Value Bio Filler

I like them a lot better than a lot of other cheap Bio Balls I've seen. It is a hollow bowl with a small sponge inside each. Many cheap bio balls have a hard plastic core which takes up a lot of space in your filter as no water or bacteria can get into the hard center of each ball. I prefer ceramic rings for biofilter media, but they are both more expensive and heavier. The filter I ordered them for is a wet dry over tank filter which is a mini version of the Bakki shower for carp ponds. Since it holds 5 gallons of medium, I was afraid that using all the ceramic noodles would be too heavy for the glass tank. I also had to save some money to purchase Red Cherry Shrimp which would call the aquarium their home. To save money and weight I used an equal volume of these bio balls with some regular ceramic rings. The filter works wonderfully without ammonia, nitrites and nitrates! Using an idea suggested by another reviewer to use to seed bacteria from another tank, I hung bags of biobeads in my old tank for a week before moving them to the new one. new tank. The filter on my new reservoirs is made from stacks of quart-sized boxes of media that I've already filled halfway with ceramic ring media. After these bioballoons spent a week in the old aquarium, I took them out of the mesh bags and filled each box to the brim. Their internal shape and texture is really good for a wet-dry system as they disperse falling water well to avoid dead dry spots caused by water being directed elsewhere. I am building a Bakki DIY shower for my pond and am ordering more. it's for his media. These balls are easy to split in half and I'm going to replace the sponge in each with a ceramic ring, which will have more micropores than a sponge. I think this will give me the best combination of cost and water distribution. Weight and surface areas for beneficial microbes.
