This is an awesome hook. If you follow the directions and apply it to the right type of non-porous surface, it works great. I'm convinced the only people who have trouble with this are those who don't apply it correctly or on the wrong surface. If you do everything right, it's reliable. The instructions say to tighten it every two hours for 48 hours. It's a little superfluous, no one can do it, nor is there a need. Just give it a few extra spins for the first few days and you'll be fine. It looks pretty good too, if you look closely you can tell it's made of plastic, but it still looks good. Being plastic, it's likely to scrape and scrape fairly easily, so you should probably be careful not to scratch it. I haven't scratched mine yet, but I've been careful with it. This hook works great for most items, but I have another suction hook that is better for things with straps like wallets, backpacks, robes with hanging loops, etc. He holds these items more securely. The other hook's suction works just as well as this one, it just has a different design that's better for certain types of items.
