Review on Enhanced USB15X2W Receptacle by Hubbell Wiring Systems by Luis Green

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best on the market, 2.1A per port, LED not obtrusive but really fills the junction box

Requires multiple USB combo jacks and two iPad fast charges. Therefore, each port requires at least 2.1A at 5V (10+W total). This socket met all the requirements. I like that it's reversible too, since printed text will work anyway, whether you mount the socket upside down like in the picture (if you're mounting somewhere near a water source, mount that way) or right side up ( bedroom and the like). The only downsides to this socket are the small green LED and the sheer size of the box. However, neither is a showstopper and both make sense. The LED only indicates that the USB ports are powered. Because they don't technically turn on and off independently, the LED lets you know that the entire outlet is working. I don't mind - many GFE sockets have it - and in this case the LED is so small and angled that you literally don't even see it. So everything is fine. Where I've installed these outlets they actually work better, there's a little LED to let you know they're there so you don't bump into things in the middle of the night. If you put that in front of your face at the foot of the bed I would change my mind. Just a few things to note, but that's okay. However, the size of the outlet is a potential issue for some. It's really big and completely fills the junction box. It makes sense that it should be this big because it's a powerful USB charger and the technology of greatly reducing the size of resistors to prevent these things from melting isn't used in a lot of consumer electronics (yet). So just know. There's nothing you can do about it other than buy it and see if you can maneuver the wiring inside the junction box to accommodate the outlet. In my case it took a bit of fiddling and some decent tinkering, but I got it working and I'm glad I did. The pros far outweigh any cons this socket might have. They work great and I'm starting to think about replacing many other outlets around the house with them to eliminate the need for "wall spice" for guests and kids and just make it more convenient to charge things anywhere.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not secure
