Our four year old son, like most children, is involved in car accidents. He once said he wanted cars that "fall apart" on impact like the ones he's seen in crash test videos, so I stumbled across them. somewhat overwhelmed by how light the cases are and how thin the individual parts are. I was sure they would break after a few weeks of heavy use. That schedule seemed even more unlikely when he became obsessed with them to the point where he just wanted to play with them, day after day, for two weeks. I thought they would break in a few days. But they are in very good condition - none of the parts are cracked or broken off and the frames are still like new. Assembly was a bit tricky at first, but as someone who has built it literally over 100 times (probably every car) I can honestly say it gets a lot easier with practice. Parquet floors, and sometimes they seem to "get stuck". We didn't really care because we didn't rely on that functionality, but it's worth mentioning if your kids (or YOU) plan on using it. I also didn't expect them to walk on carpet at all. . When they work, they work surprisingly fast. If you don't want to break them, each car also has a "pin" that snaps into the bottom of the car and blocks the "kill switch" which is the front bumper. Again, we never used them, but a couple of times I tested them, they worked as advertised. The main caveat is that while they've held up well for us, if you have a child who's particularly tough on their toys, they probably won't last very long. Cars in particular seem to be very prone to breakage if they fall onto a hard surface in such a way that the emergency mechanism doesn't work (i.e. crashes at all). Our son is usually very gentle with his toys but when he dropped one (accidentally) the base broke in half. It was a quick fix (the base is actually two pieces and just snaps together), but it wasn't particularly difficult either. However, they exceeded our expectations, especially for the price. And unless your baby is a hellion, he should last a long time.
