My 11 month old Jack Russell is fully potty trained but if we weren't careful she would pee out the back door. She doesn't whimper or bark. She just stood by the back door. Now she rings and stops puddles on the back door! It is very easy to learn, but if there are no instructions. Basically, I would just say "touch" and she would touch the bell with her nose or paw and give her a treat. Once she wasn't afraid of the bell anymore, I hung her on the door and said 'touch' every time she needed to go out and gave her a treat when she came back from the potty. The whole process took about a week and now she calls every time she has to go out.
