Everything is fine with the backlight, but the battery life is terrible
light works well. The board works as it should. The brightness wasn't as bright as I expected, but it's not terrible. I wanted to mount them remotely and use the battery to power them so no wires were visible. I put in new Duracell Optimum AA (X4) batteries. They lasted 4 hours before exhausting themselves. The battery life is not acceptable. I ended up having to use a small USB power adapter (not included) to power the light and deal with the protruding cord.
