I bought this carrier for my chihuahua pup after she outgrew the first carrier. This is definitely for a small dog - mine is 6 pounds. I use this when we fly and it works great. With the sides folded back she has plenty of room to stretch out at night or whenever she wants to take a nap. There are zips at the top, one end and even the sides to let them out. The pocket at the end is big enough to hold a 6 foot (1/2 inch wide) leash as well as their poop bags and a collapsible bowl. There is a leash in the carrier so your puppy doesn't run away when you let them out. I'm not sure how that would work on kittens as it's basically a web. But it works great for my dog.
