Review on Panasonic RF P50D Pocket Silver RF P50D by Lonnie Batch

Pleasant not ideal for training

Recently vandals cut the fiber optic line in my area and shut down the internet (including some cell phone) in my town. Government officials were struggling to figure out how to handle big jobs like routing calls to emergency services, while ordinary business owners like me used to leave the office, look around, and wonder when the internet would be back. . There was no cell service, we couldn't use our cell phones, there was no internet at home or in the office. No neighborhood internet, no neighborhood internet in the café. And we didn't have a landline (shhh!). I turned on our emergency AM radio and heard nothing. At the time, I had no idea what the Sun's entry into the ionosphere might have to do with it, except that the AM radio appeared to be off as well. I ran to the car and again there was no AM radio. But that's where all the news is! I started flying around our FM radio stations and after listening to horrible music for 10 minutes the message came: the line has been cut and here is the ETA. Hooray! A few hours later we were back up and running. However, it was an uncomfortable scenario. It made me think about what I might be missing if there wasn't a radio around. While I thought it was an outdated and relatively useless form of communication, it seemed to have its perks. I bought this Panasonic and a small Kaito KA321. Of the two, this was the best AM performer. In the evening I can pick up KOH Reno which is almost 250 miles from where I live. Please note that AM does not operate during the day, this is normal. During the day here in rural northern California, I'm tuned into a radio station in a language I don't understand. In the evening the group opens and I can take station by station. It's a bit annoying that this radio doesn't play FM stereo through headphones. So I prefer Kaito KA321 for mobile use during training. For private listening in your free time, whether hiking or elsewhere, the small earphones supplied are more than sufficient. With the other ear, you can have a conversation with someone else. This radio is also uncomfortable when exercising due to the location of the headphone cord. When you put it in your pocket, you'll wonder how much shear stress is put on the headphone plug. If you're holding it, try to find a position where it sits comfortably without bumping the headphone jack into anything. However, I will not send it back. This is a nice little radio that gets the job done.
