Best Value SSD - Installation can be tricky, learn from my mistakes!

I bought a 256GB SATA drive and it is by far the best SSD I could find. It might not be the fastest in terms of performance, but for my needs (and on my old motherboard, which only supports SATA I speeds anyway) it's perfect. The company's customer service is also excellent. I thought I had problems with the first one I received (in hindsight it probably worked) and the company shipped a new one very quickly with no problems. Now that my Windows 10 is installed on an SSD, I feel like a brand new machine. Installation Tips: I'm not, and don't claim to be, a hardware or computer expert, I installed on my desktop myself and learned a lot in the process. (mainly via Google and message boards). This is not a detailed installation guide, just a few tips I've learned. Here's how you can learn from my mistakes and avoid disappointment: 1. If your computer doesn't recognize your drive and you don't see the drive in Disk Management or the BIOS, go into the BIOS and make sure the SATA ports aren't disabled . I had this problem and it took me forever to figure out that it was the problem. In hindsight it should have been obvious, but I learned all that, so I didn't think about it. 2. You will also likely need to go into the BIOS and ensure that SATA is set to AHCI for operation. BUT (and this is important), if you don't have AHCI in your settings and switch to them in BIOS, you'll get a blue screen at startup and crash. First you need to use Command Prompt (as Administrator) to make sure it boots into Safe Mode by typing "bcdedit /set {current} safeboot Minimum" THEN reboot your computer and enter BIOS, switch to AHCI , reboot into safe mode and return to command prompt as administrator, type "bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot", reboot and you're done. After that I could finally see both drives in boot order.3. If you want to migrate Windows OS from an existing drive to an SSD, you can try cloning it and you might not have any problems, but after several cloning attempts with different programs failing every time, I finally managed to do it. I did a clean install of Windows from a USB (or other media) device and was glad I did. Don't waste time cloning and just do a clean install. This can save you countless hours of frustration. I don't know if this helps anyone or not, but I hope so. And if this all seems VERY complicated to you, find a friend who knows computer hardware, buy him a case of his favorite beer, and ask him to install it for you.
