It's matte and definitely papery. But dressing was difficult. I had to lift the whole thing without plastic because it wasn't level the first time. In the beginning it was difficult to install the protector from the top, so I started from the bottom on the second try. After placing it correctly, I noticed some bubbles on the screen, so I tried lifting it back up, but only up to the part where the bubbles were. I used the sticky thing that came with the kit to get rid of the dust. Fast forward: I removed the bubbles on the screen, but they affected the side I removed the screen protector from. It doesn't bother me though, since I have a silver iPad with a white frame, so it's not that noticeable. It's clearly a lot better than on screen. See photos! I recommend.
