Assembly is very easy. My experience with plastic dowels is that they don't hold up well in situations where they are often loaded, so I used a metal dowel for the top screw that takes all the load. I don't know what set screw other reviewers got, but mine came with a standard 3/32" socket (definitely not the smallest size in my collection) and it was easy enough to tighten.
