They won't last forever (maybe just a few months), but THEY WORK. I hand wash mine (just like the delicates, don't put them in the dryer as the gel will melt) but they need to be changed regularly every 1-2 months. However, you should not suffer from this. I will never stop using these socks. I have a severe recurring buildup of dry skin to the point where my feet crack and bleed (which is very painful and can prevent me from exercising let alone walking). These socks can soften skin overnight. I was shocked when I first used it. I've tried everything - gel socks, melted wax, fish oil, amope, lotions, etc. Everything works except lotions/petroleum jelly/topics which don't help me much. The most effective was using these socks and consuming Pharmax brand fish oil (it finally dawned on me that I had an internal imbalance, not an external imbalance). I've also had good experiences with the melted wax used in pedicure shops and the Amope electric razor. When I need something fast, efficient, easy to carry, and with minimal fuss, socks and fish oil work best for me. I'm amazed at how quickly the gel works: it softens the skin overnight while you sleep and doesn't cause any discomfort or odor. I have small feet but I would recommend other forms of gel application if they are too small for you. It really worked for me (I need to keep using them) and was a good start to overcome the problem.
