We bought three of these drives and none of them could be left plugged in immediately after purchase. Once you plug it in, they all connect and disconnect constantly. We've tried cables other than the ones that came with the drive and tried them on both Mac and Windows and none worked. When we finally took one of the drives out of the case and plugged it directly into the machine, it worked perfectly. Stay away from them, a very small difference in price doesn't help if they don't work properly.
