First time replacement - easy to do - looks good

As a first time home owner I have learned how to fix many common problems. This was my first time trying to replace a faucet. Instructions were easy to follow, all parts easy to find and place in the right place. The only step that isn't described in the instructions (it's shown in the picture) is for three holes, there's a piece that goes under the faucet and onto the top of the front panel. I have not seen this piece used for three holes. Upon completion I was curious as to where it had gone and I sensed that something was missing from the new faucet as some sort of leveling brace was visible; I found it strange. Came back and read EVERYTHING. I found a picture showing a small oval part that I felt was missing something. However, the wording makes no mention of placing this part before the bezel is attached. Since I was struggling with the drain knot, I didn't want to take everything apart to put this piece on. It's more for aesthetics. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and that bothered me at first. When the time comes when I need to take it apart for some reason I will definitely add a ring. Overall it looks great, I like the ease of attaching the new hoses (although they aren't very flexible) and having only one water/temp control versus the old two separate hot/cold hoses.
