Not sufficient light spectra for plant growth

This light doesn’t emit any form of UV. When I used it to grow tomatoes the leaves became yellow and variegated and the plants pretty much stopped growing. The same happened for my lupines and moonflower. I replaced the light with a vastly cheaper fixture that used T-5 fluorescent tubes which do emit some UV. They’re also cheap and easily replaceable. Once I did this new growth on the plants was healthy and green. Maybe these can be used for flowering some plants, but they don’t suffice in the vegetative stage. There are now mid-range horticultural LEDs That emit UV. The product isn’t worth the price for the performance, and the diodes seem to loose intensity quickly over time. I also had an issue with the dimmer - it broke completely but I was able to take apart the fixture and fix it myself.

Pros
  • The lighting system provides plant growth rates that are faster than traditional lighting
Cons
  • Might be too bright for some people's tastes
