I wanted to replace the metal zippers on my outdoor items as the plastic straps deteriorate over time due to UV rays. The downside is they are a lot harder to hand tighten and trim, so I was itching to try the tension tool. While it's definitely a lot easier to tighten and cut ties than by hand, the tension was disappointing. I'm hoping for a zip-tie like connection, but it doesn't offer that, although it tightens more than I can by hand and the tailor is comfortable. It's disappointing that the tool feels nice and tight when the handle is engaged, but as soon as you let go or cut into it, it loosens up again. Tools designed for steel strapping usually have a take-up device that pulls the slack so there is no problem with the strap slipping when you let go of the handle, but I haven't been able to find anything with this feature in a smaller size for steel cable ties. . From all the tool reviews I've read online, this seems to be a common weakness. Given the alternative of doing this manually on a large project with dozens of connections, this is the only option I have to use Steeltime for my project. Hand tensioning and cutting so many straps is not an option for me - I just can't even hand tension it, and cutting is a separate step in this case. I wish the connections were tighter, but for me it's day and night, not by hand.
