Review on Smartphone HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro 6/128 GB, Dual nano SIM, black by Adam Adam ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like it, thanks for the quality product.

Initially, I was waiting for the release of Huawei Mate 20 in order to buy the cheaper P20 Pro. But, firstly, the P20 Pro did not fall in price, and secondly, I was impressed with the presentation of the Mate 20 and ordered it on emotions in the first minutes of pre-order. He arrived on October 29, 2022. Alas, the phone did not live up to my expectations. Given the extremely positive experience of owning the Honor8 phone, the rather long period after its purchase - 2 years, during which the Huawei brand has progressed rapidly, and the much higher price (78 vs. 28), I expected that this would be a perfect phone another level. But, as one notorious football player said: "Your expectations are your problems!". In practice, this phone is a demonstration of new features, the need for which is doubtful or the implementation of which is still damp. Some of them will probably be fixed with new software firmware, and some, for example, wireless charging of other phones, will simply be unclaimed (by the way, I tried to charge Samsung 6 or 7 - it works, but only in a specific position, which is easy to break, and very slowly). In general, taking into account the 3-day experience, I would not overpay more than 30 thousand for it, but would take the P20 Pro. About gifts: 1) The watch, in addition to a beautiful appearance, does not carry much benefit. At least for me, given the availability of the Huawei Band 2 Pro fitness bracelet. The functionality of a fitness bracelet is almost the same. They have neither a speaker, nor a microphone, nor a player, nor the possibility of paying via Google Pay. They differ from the bracelet in the presence of weather information, a compass, improved workouts and a large screen. 2) Freebuds headphones. The only plus is that they sit quite comfortably in the ears, they do not fall out. At the same time, there are much more disadvantages: a) insufficient functionality - they do not know how to switch tracks and adjust the volume. b) buggy - I could not ate the software, when they are removed from the ears, they stop working (you have to put them in the box and take them out again), there is no memory (the sound is interrupted), poor communication with the phone during a conversation.

Pros
  • - Screen. The picture quality is super, especially if you turn off the smart resolution mode and put qhd +. Compared to the previous phone, it is very pleasant to watch video / content (except for the edges, which is in the shortcomings). The notch (bangs) doesn't bother me at all. Given the need to visualize notifications that are located on the sides of the top border of the screen, the notch is the right decision. True, I hid it with a dark stripe, it looks more organic. - Cameras. The previous phone was very good on the camera side, especially when shooting portraits/people (in my case a child). I have not had time to fully test the camera in this phone, but the number of modes and settings is impressive. - Autonomy of work - after a full night charge (used a regular unit, not super charge) and disconnected from the network at 7:30 in the morning, the phone survived until 22:00 the next day and left 15% of the charge. At the same time, I naturally drove it more than the old gadget, because. figured out the settings, listened to music through new headphones, climbed in the browser, etc. (although I don't use my phone to play games). - I didn’t really need performance, because. even the old Honor satisfied me completely. The new phone seems to be no worse (but it seems to be, see below).
Cons
  • - Size. The phone is very big. It is very inconvenient to operate a 6.39-inch phone with one hand (medium size), especially in the Google Chrome browser. After the last Honor 8 phone, which was very comfortable in terms of size, it is difficult to get used to the size of the Mate 20 Pro. For me, the Iphone X has the optimal phone and screen size, but given the past experience of using phones of this brand and the unwillingness to overpay Apple for the brand, I did not consider it as a purchase option; - Grab. The phone is slippery. Even the ribbed glass on the back wall does not help. I had to immediately put a regular silicone case on it, but I can’t confidently hold it in it either. It is very strange, but the wife's phone Iphone 7 Plus lies more confidently in the hand, perhaps due to the greater width and cover. - Rounding of the side edges of the screen. For an amateur. Nice, but not very practical. There are no accidental clicks, but due to the refraction of light at the edges and glare, the transition from a straight screen to a curved one looks visually bad. - Face scanner. It doesn't always work out. Especially in cases where you pick up a nearby phone and bring it close to your face (at a distance of 25 cm or less). In this case, he either does not try to recognize, or recognizes for a long time, or is mistaken. In low light and in a hat, it is suspiciously easy to unlock. Most likely it is easy to deceive him in such conditions. - Finger scanner. Works for about 1 s (slower than on Honor). Accuracy 90-95%. At the same time, for me personally, the location on the back was more convenient. The big disadvantage for me is the impossibility of using it to pay for purchases in the amount of 1000 + via Google Pay (the phone asks for a PIN, which, by the way, is 6 digits). - Unfinished OS or glitches of the phone itself. For 3 days I met several small glitches and one big one. A big glitch - when you turn off the navigation buttons with the transition to gestures, all the shortcuts on the table disappear, or rather they are there, but they are not visible. You have to roll back the settings and reboot.
