Review on πŸ”‹ Duracell Procell PC1500 AA Alkaline-Manganese Dioxide Battery, 1.5V, Pack of 24 by Richard Cheng

Failed quickly, leaked and Duracell wouldn't admit it

I bought 4 of 24 boxes to use in my agency fire department Scott's self contained breathing apparatus ("air packs"). This product is one of the few SKUs that Scott has certified for use in its X3 respirator. We change the batteries in all of our backpacks regularly in advance as recommended by the manufacturer. Two weeks after changing the battery, the battery would not activate during training. Inspection revealed a battery leak sufficient to damage the packaging. We have contacted our technicians and they have informed us that they know Duracell has a bad batch of these batteries and that we should replace the batteries in all packages immediately. We did just that and found several others that were leaking, but none of them were bad enough to damage the packaging. Needless to say, that $5,000 safety gear wasn't to our liking. We contacted Duracell and explained the problem in detail. They wrote us a check to reimburse us for the cost of repairing the damaged respirator but insisted the problem was user error and not a manufacturing defect and covered it up as a goodwill gesture. They refused to replace the other 90 batteries that we discarded earlier. Agency-wide we switched to the product Energizer EN91. So much for "reliable everywhere”.
