more consistent grind at finest setting than coarser setting

Bought this grinder a few weeks ago; Since the beginning of January I have been researching/observing several cone mills. When I finally discovered this coffee grinder in February, it had an attractive price and I decided to take a chance and use it. I used to have the popular Cuisinart DBM-8 Flat Burr Coffee Grinder for less than $40. That was enough for me for 8-9 years of almost daily use, but I've never been in love with it. (Not good enough, not consistent enough.) As many others mentioned in the Questions section, I too was very suspicious of this product for a number of reasons, partly because the same grinder is sold by another company called Bayka, also on Revane . Both lists are relatively new and have incredible ratings and lots of reviews from people who don't seem to know much about coffee. The Bayka model has been largely unavailable since I discovered it in late December 2019. Anyone who regularly shops at Revain knows that very few products have a real 4.9 star rating. This is usually a red flag, especially when combined with few reviews, lots of poor quality reviews, an unfamiliar brand, and a recent launch. -End because people who buy cheaper ones either have low standards or low expectations. It has a fairly powerful 150w motor and is much quieter than the Cuisinart. Overall fairly strong and durable; The silver tube that houses the motor is metal. Washes out pretty quickly. Makes a bit of a mess, but not really much. I really think it's an improvement over Cuisinart and worth the price I paid ($64 minus the $7 coupon, so $57). The quality/consistency of the grind is noticeably better, as it should be. But maybe not that much better. The product page states that current prices are indicative and will increase to $129. It's worth noting that when I bought it on February 8th, the site said the price would go up to $150. I've never owned a more expensive grinder so I can't compare performance to the Baratza, Capresso, Oxo, Breville etc or any of the other lesser known ones. It doesn't appear to me that this coffee grinder is worth much more than the price I paid. But then again I'm pretty happy with it (so far, just 2 weeks later) for the price I paid. with an optimal setting - not too large pieces (rocks) and not too many small particles (dust). It's definitely not super thin, but it's fairly consistent, at least on the highest settings. I think it's noticeably less consistent at coarse or medium settings. I tested this when I first got the machine and it turned out that the particle size had changed quite a bit, with some particles being larger than I would have liked. (I didn't actually brew these coffee grounds, just wanted to test the consistency and see the difference between the settings.) But... I usually just want fine/very thin Aeropress or Turkish, so it doesn't concern me much either. Since my first tests I have only used it with the best settings. I have found that I can brew decent Turkish coffee, although the grind is definitely not as fine as a commercial coffee grinder. It should be like a powder, and it's definitely not a powder. However, this is enough to not leave a floating bottom in the cup, which I think is enough. My first cup from this mill was Turkish and I was impressed with the quality/taste. I suspect this is evidence of particle uniformity, which I think is perhaps more important than actual particle size. (Because without uniform particles, you get both over-extraction and under-extraction in the same cup.) For what it's worth, I use Ruta Maya Organic Dark Roast Beans, which I also used with my previous grinder. .**************** The grinder was well packaged, with a decent and helpful instruction manual in real English (the last part was a little surprising). As well as an offer to get a free milk frother. I followed the instructions on how to do this and actually received the blower a few days ago. (Supply is limited, so probably not worth the wait.) Finally, if you own the Prime, this item comes with free returns, so there's not much of a risk in the end.

Pros
  • Precision Grind - The grinder's geared motor runs slowly with reduced noise levels, resulting in aromatic and tasty ground coffee. Constructed of hardened alloy steel conical burrs designed for more expensive commercial machines, this grinder will last.
Cons
  • There are defects
