Review on ๐Ÿฎ Lighthouse Bedroom Candelabra with LOHAS Certification by Kimberly Peterson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well but not always plug and play - may need tweaking!

Received today. All six bulbs work and are coordinated in terms of color and brightness. The brightness is approximately equivalent to a 15w incandescent lamp as advertised. The color is a bit colder than I expected at 3000K, maybe closer to the 3500K in reality. But they still have warmth and I find the quality of the light acceptable. While buying these I saw many reviews of other LED bulbs stating that the metal base, which is the widest next to the plastic, is a bit too much. wide so it can be screwed into some night lights. This prevents proper electrical contact and if you try to push it further the usual result is the plastic coming loose leaving a base that still doesn't make contact and is quite difficult to remove. So when I ran into the same problem with this lightbulb, I knew better than to try to force it. Instead, I took out the bulb and used a small screwdriver to bend the bronze center pin in the night light socket. It only needed to be lifted 1 or 2 millimeters to ensure proper contact. Alternatively I could use a dremel with a drum sander to slightly enlarge the opening of the night light. The second night light also had to be modified, but the third worked without it. After that I tried one in my Himalayan salt lamp. These are non-dimmable lamps and my lamp had a dimmer. Thought I'd risk it anyway, maybe with the dimmer on full power it would work? No luck, it only reached a quarter of its normal brightness. So I "removed" the dimmer by opening the dimmer case and soldering a jumper wire to bypass it. It was quick and didn't require any permanent changes if I wanted to undo it later. After that, the bulb worked great and was just as bright as the 15w bulb it replaced, but it saves me about $16 a year in electricity! (And don't worry about the ions, see my answer to "does it work with himalayan lamps" for details.) I'm only deducting one star because I've installed four so far, only one turned out to be a plug . and game. The other three, as described, required little mechanical/electrical work.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
