That's a good thing for the price. It was packaged very well including a full outer plastic wrap around the entire box which is great value as it was delivered during a major snow storm and was left outside for a few days during my trip so would have been very wet if it had been wasn't in plastic. When I opened it, the package was 100% dry. The packaging is very heavy, as is the table itself. Unless you are very strong and tall enough, you will need help (doll or human) to bring this thing into the house. Much more stable than I would have expected from cheap furniture. The taupe (more gray than brown) laminate flooring with faux wood detailing is an issue that makes it look dated and looks believable enough, but you won't fool anyone by looking at it up close or touching the surface. The assembly instructions are GREAT - all the parts are clearly labeled, the hardware is in separate packages by type and numbered in the order you need them. All holes matched perfectly. I am a small woman and collected it by myself. I was concerned about how heavy some of the pieces were, thinking it would be difficult to hold them in place and attach them, but that wasn't a problem. It took me about an hour but I was interrupted several times - I could probably finish in 30-40 minutes if I tried. Overall I was very impressed with the planning and the quality that went into the buildability of this piece. Felt pads on the feet are recommended, as the device is very heavy and you don't want to move it without protection, especially over parquet. When assembled, the product is quite durable. Most of the weight comes from a very strong block that attaches to the underside of the bottom shelf. I believe the purpose of the block is to stabilize the character and it's quite effective. I am placing this in a holiday home where I am very careful not to include furniture which I think children could easily knock over as they run around and I am sure this property will hold tenants up in terms of the risk of tipping. , provided nobody tries to climb it. The only downside to this piece is that the front edge of one shelf was very slightly damaged upon unboxing, causing the laminate to peel off (approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch). length) and it stood out because the material underneath is much lighter than laminate. I managed to touch it up with a black highlighter which I quickly smudged and rubbed in to brighten it up and now it just looks problematic and part of the design. However, I am concerned that despite the excellent packaging, there are scratches and such a small dent could cause the laminate to peel severely. I wonder how it will stand up to the wear and tear. That is the reason for four instead of five stars. However, I am so satisfied that I will take the chance and order a few more items from this collection. Update, four years later: Just came across this review I wrote a few years ago. The play has endured LOTS of tenants and their kids, dogs, drunk friends, etc. Still looks like new.
