A compromise between strength and flexibility!
I thought they could easily fit the square garden chair legs which are a little smaller than this size due to the deep grooves between the ribs, but the plastic isn't flexible and the first rib is just as wide as that Pad itself. I got them working by trimming the corners of the ribs with nail clippers and softening the plastic with hot water before inserting them.
