You will be amazed by the photos this item prints. Better than anything that has ever come out of an inkjet printer! It prints with or without a computer. As with most digital cameras, outdoor shots look great, but indoor flash shots may need to be tweaked in an image editing program with a computer. The dock uses the same cartridge as older versions of the printer dock, but check the list of cameras that are compatible with the dock. It prints from any PictBridge digital camera using a USB connection. It prints with thermal transfer dye. Basically it is a roll of plastic film with yellow, red, blue and protective coating for each picture. I've tried rewinding the roll and using it to print new images, but a ghost image of the original print appears on the new image. Kodak supplies 40 sheets of glossy tabbed photo paper per cartridge. It's magical to see how it works. The docking station grabs the photo paper and feeds it through the docking station 4 times: once each for yellow, red and blue, and then again for a protective waterproof coating. The images look awful while the yellow and red are being applied, and then suddenly become real after the blue is gone. How this doesn't mess up the placement of the paper between each pass I don't see, but the result is an amazingly sharp photo. After printing, the perforated tabs break off, leaving the photo borderless. The only downside I can think of is that the photos are limited to 4 x 6 inches or smaller and also doesn't run on batteries so you have to be plugged into an outlet to print or transfer.
