Looks cheap. Yes they were cheap but I have bought many products that were cheap but still felt like a quality product, this is not one of them. The mount might fit a small, lightweight phone, but not the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The first issue is that it barely fits and definitely exceeds the limits of the jaws that hold the phone. The next problem is that the bracket holding the stem detaches very easily, allowing the phone to tip down. Not very useful if you have to constantly adjust your phone's position. It's also not very stable, even when tightened with a lot of movement, for example. The final issue is that when you rotate the phone, due to the loose telescoping rods, the phone rotates in the direction that centrifugal force is pulling it. That way the phone will keep spinning when you're making sharp turns (e.g. entering or exiting a parking lot) and unless you glue the bars together nothing can be done. All in all a good idea with poor execution resulting in a product not serving its intended purpose. Skip this mount, it's a waste of money.
