Review on KUTTER Brush Wash Cleaner Renewer 32 Ounce by Mike Nix

Revainrating 4 out of 5

makes 18 potions from a quart

After 35 years, there's probably still some dried paint in the heels of my favorite brushes. I bought a liter of Krud Kutter because any dried paint will ruin a good brush. If I had a round jar big enough for my 4 inch brush, it would take me a quart to fill it to the top. I saw him advertise $14 a liter. It can cost more than a new brush. In the 1980's I made a box to saturate my 4 inch brush with some thinner. I used two thick nails as pins on the top of the plywood backing. They support the box on the shoulders of the hanging brush. If I made two holes in the top of a sandwich bag, I could stick a brush in the bag and hang the bag on nails. The sides are beveled because the wrist tapers from heel to toe. The lower part has a groove for gripping the bottom edge of the Masonite cover. I grounded the slot in the lid so I could see the diluent level in the bag. Each side has a clip so I can thread a wire to hold the lid against the brush to keep the bag from bulging. It takes 50ml to fill the pouch to the top so one liter is enough to soak the brush 18 times leaving 40ml. I soak the brush in Krud Kutter for 48 hours. It was very good before that and I think it got better after that. The cleaner has become milky. Next time I can leave it for a week. I won't need the Crood Cutter very often. When using latex paint, I wash and comb my brushes, wash my plastic paint bucket, add a few teaspoons of baking soda and a few drops of dish soap, fill it to the brim and add the brushes. After a day or two, the baking soda will soften any paint I haven't washed off my brushes or buckets. Acetone is possibly the best plasticizer for heavily cured paint. A nylon, polyester, or plastic bag won't hurt. It is quite expensive and evaporates quickly in an open can. If I ever need it, I'll take the box. The impregnation box for my little brush shouldn't be so stiff. I can make one out of corrugated cardboard, cement and rubber bands.
