I really have nothing more to add to the already excellent reviews. To reiterate what almost everyone says - this is a great camera. In fact, I don't think you could buy another one in the sub-$1,000 range. I've read three or four leading photo magazines and ezines and they all rave about this boy. And I have to say that I agree. I use my old Canon AE-1 for fun, which I started at school in the late 80's. This camera ended up breaking a few years ago and I gave it to someone who could fix it. Since then I've tried to get by with a few cheap ones, but it wasn't the kind of camera that really made you want to go out and shoot with it. Photography is back. The 10D-40D series are cameras that make you want to take pictures. This was probably the main reason I bought the 40D and not the Rebel 450D - this just feels a lot more stable in the hands. The higher resolution of the new 450D (12MP versus 10MP) doesn't matter much for my purposes. The capabilities of the 450D would have been sufficient for my amateur photography, but shooting with it wasn't that pleasant. If you're hesitant about a 450D or 40D, I would suggest going to a camera store (or even Best Buy, which usually has both) and "feel" it for yourself. When I did that, the 450D just didn't feel right. This is a great kit with a 28-135mm lens. Don't mess with any kits that sell you a cheap 18-55mm kit lens and please don't buy a 40D and then spend another $170 on a cheap lens. It's like putting a Mazda Miata engine in a Corvette. But 28-135mm is not cheap. This lens costs $400, and the kit is $150 cheaper. The USM (Super Silent Motor) and IS (image stabilization) functions make the 28-135mm a very good and very versatile entry-level lens. The consumption is not much more than the 18-55mm, but it is worth it in the long run. So if you are just starting out, this is definitely the best kit for you. As always, the delivery from Revain is amazing. I ordered the item on a Monday morning, added standard shipping ($8 extra), and the next day the item was at my door. Unfortunately I ordered the CF card through Newegg (which has a pretty good shipping reputation!) so I had to wait another 2 days for it to be delivered.
