To me this toaster lived up to its advert: great for thick bread, bagels, English muffins, crumpets and yes, regular toast. A person here has to have had a real flop to give it a star. If you do, too, you should trade it in because it's the best toaster I've ever had (and I've lived on this planet for over half a century and experienced my fair share of toast). It never gets hot outside which is great if you have a little space for it. I set mine to 5.5 (7 max) and it makes perfect bagels, toast and whatever all in one go. It is really well built and looks very nice. I only use it for toasting and I don't have much space so for me it's much better than a toaster. 7 to get a good toast and now the toaster hardly toasts at 7 (maximum). This has been reported by many others here, so I think it's more than a rare defect. Sad because it's perfect in every other way, but it's a toaster, and if it can't toast in one go, well. This, of course, begins after the return window.
