Do yourself a favor and don't use the instructions. The screws are of poor quality and you should not use lock washers on the buckle attachment. You only need to loosen the nylon nuts a little, otherwise it will be very difficult to use the straps for different height people. The locking bar is flimsy at best and the hardware holding it to the seatpost broke when I tightened it. I used the high end gear I bought from Home Depot. I'm not sure about the security offered by this kit due to the weakness of the mount. Compliant and that's why I got it, but I wouldn't rely on it to do anything in the event of a crash, it just makes it legal, not safe.
