It works. Bought to power a subwoofer.
Had to add another speaker to compete with the 5.1 setup (8 speakers total). I love that the included power adapter solved the problem instead of finding a 5.5 x 2.5mm tip in my pile of old computer chargers etc. For about $25 you can get an $8-$25 power supply and 2.1 amp with both RCA connectors. and mini inputs. There is a small blue woofer alarm that turns on when the woofer hits.
