A useful trick to save on bags and smell. Use cable ties to close packages. When changing the pouch, simply pull down the slack and place 2 zip ties across the dirty portion of the diaper 2 inches apart. Then cut between the ribbons. Presto-chan-oh, you just sealed an old dirty bag and created a new bottom for an empty bag with virtually no air exchange. So the smell stays outside when you change the bag! The rest works as intended. My biggest complaint is that the device is easy to overfill and then the mechanism that keeps the smell out is bypassed (IMHO, poor design). In addition, changing the pouch is made more difficult as the odor trap mechanism is blocked by the diaper at the same time when trying to pull the pouch further out. Just stay upstairs and it's not a problem. It would help if they put a sight glass on the door!
