U-Bolts are perfect for this application! It actually looks pretty cool, much better than the cheap wooden ones. I love how easy they are to use and how strong the gate is thanks to the pressure attachment. It can easily carry my 20lb 29.5in baby. We don't let him lean on the gate with his full weight, but it's strong enough to keep him from reaching the stairs before an adult grabs him. I also like that it has an auto close feature and that it can be opened from either side. I can also specify the height this should be set to. These baby gates are awesome!
