First of all I'm an electrical engineer and I love refreshing coffee. I have had several of these electric percolators. I connected mine to a remote timer so I can start making coffee while I'm still in bed. I installed it the night before. Electrically they are all the same. Some are built a little differently. This has worked great for almost a year. It is assumed that the coffee will be brewed for about 7 minutes and then go into "warm up mode". What happens is that the device that measures the temperature and sets the coffee maker to "keep warm" is a cheap piece of junk. This device is slowly deteriorating. When this happens, the percolator switches back to percolation in "warm up" mode. You will end up with a pot full of soil. And you're lucky you're getting at least a year. Usually other weak/poorly made parts break first. This includes either a heating element, internal connections, power cord outlet, etc. Or buy a stainless steel coffee maker, use the correct coffee to water ratio, let it sit for 7 minutes, and let it sit for 2 minutes. Enjoy !
