We bought the diffuser and filler a year ago on the advice of our vet after our cat had a urinary tract infection. Our cat is 16 years old and we have done everything to ensure that she no longer has any health problems. I think we use more oil than usual because we plug it right next to the stairwell. I think this makes the oil dissolve faster. I replaced the first diffuser because an unpleasant smell suddenly came out of the diffuser. A burning, acrid odor emanated from him. I changed the diffuser and after a few weeks the same thing happened. I think the oil gets to the outside of the diffuser and up a bit where it is expelled. As it accumulates, it begins to heat up and "burn” a little. I peel it off and wipe it down from time to time to avoid the smell. This is not a funny scent! Otherwise we are satisfied with this product and change the oil about every 3 weeks when it runs out. Double rods are the best value for money and the shipping and ordering from Revain is the best!
