You need Thunderbolt 3 for your Macs!

We are an IT business with a large Windows laptop base. This dock was for our first Mac install. Works perfectly for us. Takeaways for people in the same Windows-centric environments: 1. You need Thunderbolt 3 to work with multiple monitors. That means you can use a cheap USB-C dock and it will certainly work with multiple monitors, but they will all MIRROR each other. There is NO way to extend your desktop to multiple monitors via USB C. Only Thunderbolt 3 allows this. It's expensive, but it works.2. You need adapterless DisplayPort connections from the docking station to your monitors. Anything you throw in the way, like a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, means you CANNOT extend your desktop and all your monitors will MIRROR each other. With this docking station and two DisplayPort cables, installation is a breeze and works great from anywhere in the world. Crate.

Pros
  • Supports 4K Ultra HD (4096 x 2160, 30-bit color, 60 Hz) on single or dual monitors for Thunderbolt 3 devices; USB-C devices support 4096x2160@30Hz for a single monitor or 1920x1080p@30Hz for dual monitors; new Macbooks with M1 chipset will only display on external monitor with Thunderbolt dock due to Apple chipset limitation (for dual monitor see our part #K33620NA)
Cons
  • Not bad but...
